Joshua Gilbert

Josh is a socially and commercially focused Worimi (Aboriginal) man with over a decade of experience in the agricultural sector, specialising in Indigenous agriculture, work in sustainability and Indigenous employment. Josh works across government, corporate and social organisational levels to develop and lead change through sharing the narration of Indigenous identity through agricultural and environmental truth-telling in light of modern contexts. Josh is a deep, strategic thinker and manages business change effectively through empathy. He is passionate about creating change through effective investment and societal understanding.

In 2025, Josh launched his first book, Australia’s Agricultural Identity: An Aboriginal Yarn, narrating Indigenous agricultural concepts and their meaning in the current agricultural fields.

Josh is undertaking a PhD at Charles Sturt University, focused on the concept of Indigenous modernity through agriculture. He was recognised internationally for his work, announced as one of three Australians in Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project in 2015 and as part of the inaugural 50 Next: People Shaping the Future of Gastronomy cohort.

Josh has over a decade of board experience across community organisations, State and Federal Government boards and advisory committees, and multi-billion-dollar corporations. Josh currently serves on the boards of Indigenous Business Australia, the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office, and the Australian Conservation Foundation, and is the Aboriginal Co-Chair of Reconciliation NSW.
